The topic of week 4 was Semiotics. This means whenever we look at some sign and we understand what is the meaning of it or have some ideas about the meaning. It's amazing to think that signs around us creates the meaning and resembles of something. For example the zebra crossing where the man walks over the crossing warns the drivers to drive slower and for pedestrians it means that they can cross the street there.
Actually, the funny and yet quite meaningless thing in my opinion is that some people in Finland complained that the zebra crossing sign should be unisex. This even made into news but it just feels very stupid because its the sign that everyone understands and it would not matter is it female or male in the sign.
The colors in the signs also resembles of things. The red color resembles danger or something that you should have a to be noticed. Stop-sign is only red and the text is white. That's why people notice it and most likely follow the rule.
It can be hard to come up with a new sign for company or very complicated thing when you try to create it as the person would understand the meaning of it. When I was doing my diving certificate then I realized that the diving company's logo had a fish in it. It was one of the "ahaa" moments.
